Day One is about setting up for a week of study, understanding where you stand as an individual or team, and planning for how to bring along the rest of your organization, as appropriate, in the weeks following.

1. Identify someone on your team who:

• Can dedicate a solid person-week to working through this program

• Has moderate, but not necessarily senior, software development skills, i.e.

  • Generally uses or can use a modern IDE for code development. We recommend and use VS Code, but your ambassador may have a personal preference.

  

  The Microsoft Visual Studio Code editor

  • Has experience with, or can easily pick up using a Jupyter Notebook or Google Colab. For a fast and simple setup, they might want to look into using Replit.

• Has reasonable organizational and communication skills: s/he will be responsible for translating and presenting these materials later to the rest of your organization.

2. Learn How We Got Here

We believe it is important to set the current generation of AI work in a historical context as the story is a surprisingly long one, and there have been key milestones on the way to this current “AI Spring”. This section highlights the most important of those milestones along the way.
